In honor of World Health Day, April 7th, the Steadfast Patriot did a temporary special program on health care, with the help of FreeMarketCure.com. Now we're relaunching our campaign "War on Healthcare" and fighting back against government intervention for a market-based solution. Join us!
Betty vs. Stuart
A Canadian's view on the Canadian single-payer health system vs. Stuart Browning's view, a political commentator and health care expert, as posted on Jay Young's blog "Dear Main Street".
Barack Obama states that he "will make health insurance affordable and accessible to all". But saying "to all" really means "to none." Health care means just that - but who is doing the caring? The government - Obama's government. I for one am not comfortable with any government taking care of me, and for the following reason:
"What is it, in a few words, that all Republicans believe? We believe - along with millions of Democrats and independents - that a government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take away everything you have." Gerald Ford at the RNC in San Diego, 1996
Which is precisely why I am opposed to any such nationalization of health care, or anything for that matter, that Obama and the liberals endorse. Nationalized health care, as well as any other such socialistic program, is bound to fail for some simple reasons.
1. As already stated, the more you let government do for you, the more power you give them. A government that promises to take care of you can change its mind the minute it has your money.
2. And where is this money coming from? The taxpayers! What difference is there between paying your own doctor bills or letting the government do it for you? It's still your money! The only difference is the redistribution of wealth that Obama says is "good for everybody." It's great if you couldn't afford health care before - someone else is footing the bill. But if you do have health insurance, you're being forced to spend more for someone else.
3. Not only is the government forcing us to buy their product, but it's also a bad one. What motive does government have in providing us citizens with good health care if we're already paying? Competition in a free market is a good thing - it forces producers to provide a good product. If they don't, people won't buy from them. But we're going to be forced to buy the government's health care - no matter how bad it is.
Liberals try to convince us how unfair things are and how "big business" has and is exploiting us. But even a monopoly on an industry is better than government control. No business can make us buy from them - only the government can do that. In trying to make things "fair" and "equal," the opposite occurs. How are things going to be made "fair" unless someone has the power to enforce such fairness? And that someone who gets that power is therefore in a higher position than anyone else is.
I will say I'm fine with others practicing socialism, as long as I'm not forced to join the "spread the wealth around" club too. Obama, if you want to help, you can go ahead and pay for someone's health care, but don't force me to do the same if I don't want to. Things still aren't fair - someone is still above me, and that someone's Obama.
