Your Host: Sam McCormick
First and foremost, thank you for visiting The Steadfast Patriot and reading my words. I am the youngest son of two small town Iowan parents. My older brother teaches high school in inner city Chicago, and I do the same in Houston, Texas. I graduated from East Kentwood High School in Kentwood, Michigan where I spent 4 years badgering and arguing with my teachers. I then immigrated to Iowa and graduated with a major in History and a minor in Psychology from the University of Iowa. I am a 23 year old realist who truly believes in the conservative cause.

While I sat inside my air conditioned apartment and watch the mercury rise to triple digits, I could not refrain from watching the Judge Sotomayor hearings. I fought back vomit as I listened to Senators Feinstein and Leahy lauding to Sotomayor’s character and past. They spoke about what an epic life she had led. She smiled with the look of a wise Latina as they continued to praise her judicial record.
But this is not my problem. This is what liberals do. Just as they stumbled over Obama, they are doing the same about her. They exploit her poverty and ethnicity to scare Republicans from asking any tough questions.
My problem is with the Republicans. I watched as Lindsey Graham rolled over and died. He is a microcosm of why Republicans can not win. They attempt to run their lives with values and morals; while Democrats assess judges based purely on their ideology. Instead of questioning Sotomayor’s record, Graham bowed down because Obama had won the election, and “elections matter.”
Graham was a perfect example of what does not work. We need leaders who will stand up when the going gets tough. Does he truly believe that when the next conservative justice gets nominated, Patrick Leahy is going to concede his vote because a Republican was the President? His thinking is insane at worst, ignorant at best.
Many say that chivalry is dead, and they are correct. In the world of politics Republicans must play hard ball. We watched as McCain left out Reverend Jeremiah Wright in the interest of political chivalry, while liberals attacked McCain’s failure to use e-mail! Republican voices go unheard while Sarah Palin’s character is assassinated. Nancy Pelosi wants to crucify the Bush administration for their precedent policies, but refuses to investigate the gross mismanagement of taxpayer money and utter corruption of ACORN.
Republicans are trying to fight a conventional war, while Democrats are using guerilla tactics straight out of Che Guevara’s playbook. Graham perfectly demonstrates the mentality of a loser. Because his party lost the presidential election he is going to allow it to impact his policies regarding Judge Sotomayor.
Sadly, Lindsey Graham is just one cog in the Republican machine that is starting to fall apart. Saul Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals” has now become the rules for mainstream liberals. While they continue to attack and tear apart America piece by piece, legislatures like Lindsey Graham are still living in the 19th century. Republicans will continue to fail until they stand up and speak with a louder voice. We live in a society that listens more intently to the loudest than the smartest. Inherently WE are the smartest, now WE need to be the loudest.
I bellied up to the bar at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas en route to a weekend of debauchery and bird killing in Alton, Illinois. I ordered a large Miller Lite and tried to avoid eye contact. As I turned to watch the highlights on ESPN I broke my own rules. I made eye contact and smiled at the man sitting next to me. This left him an opening to start a conversation. I could no longer gulp my beer in peace.
He was a good natured father of two from Nashville, Tennessee. He was a health care consultant for Microsoft and was married to a primary care physician. I took this opportunity to ask him his opinion on health care.
After he spent ten minutes talking down to me because I was “simply a teacher” he tried his darndest to get me to see the errors of my way. He tried everything and anything to prove to me that we needed health care reform in the brand of nationalized health care.
He used his fancy Microsoft lap top to show me an impressive array of statistics that supported his views. He chastised every one of my questions with a distain that almost got him knocked out. He spoke about how it is every American’s right to affordable health care. His rhetoric soared as he told me how America is going bankrupt simply because of the high cost of health care. He spoke with the heart of a true liberal all the while making sure it was known that it was not a liberal or conservative thing. He was ignorant.
Despite his fancy electronics and business title, he failed to understand the problem with his hope. He apparently had never filed taxes or gotten a new driver’s license. The government messes everything up. Bureaucracy in America is pathetic. Social security, Medicare, the tax code, public schools, everything.
The government is not where we should turn for health care. Why would we expand our government to include running and rationing health care? Why would we entrust the most basic right of every human being to the politicians that care more about resurrecting their power than your health?
Yes, the cost of health care is too high, but the government is not the answer. That seems to be the liberal answer to every question. We are facing the longest post-war era recession ever, and we are worrying about fixing health care? This is absolutely absurd.
It is a war room diversionary tactic that forces America to take their eye off the ball. The Obama administration is failing us, and instead of coming up with a plan to stabilize our banking systems we are creating grandiose nationalized health care plans. While Obama ignores the “gyrations” of the Dow, the wealth of America is being cut in half. He ignores the problems at hand in favor of Democrat initiatives that liberals have been waiting to force on the American people for years.
While Christians put their faith in God, liberal Democrats put their faith in the government. They look to the government for answers as medieval peasants looked to God for rain and health. But this medieval faith in God has was soon overrun in favor of a weak minded and easy religious faith in nothing, atheism. We can only hope that this faith in the government will subside and liberals realize that the government is not the answer to every question. It is the problem.

I will be the first to tell you that Martin Luther King Jr. is one of the most influential figures in our nation’s history. I am appalled when people wear shirts comparing MLK Jr. and Barack Obama. I often verbally abuse these ignorant miscreants who try to draw parallels between a proven bastion of action, strength, and power and that of an unproven rhetorical master whose has yet to do anything.
Martin Luther King Jr. stood up against the status quo despite the ignorant hatred that threatened his family, friends, and his people. He was a man amongst children, whose willpower and strategies single handedly catapulted the civil rights movement to the forefront of American society. His words captured a nation and his death made
With that little prelude out of the way, I can get down to the issue of my problems. I got an entire week of teaching off due to Hurricane Ike. It ravaged the communities in and around
Due to this loss of teaching time my school district had to figure out a way to make up the days missed. Instead of adding days to the end of the year as schools up north do when they lose teaching time to snow, my district decided to take away days we had scheduled off during the year.
This was fine with me, except for the following fact. The district chose to not have school on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and go to school on President’s Day. This made me furious.
As I explained, MLK Jr. made a huge impact on the landscape of
If it were not for JFK or Lyndon Johnson, none of the issues MLK Jr. was fighting for would have been relevant! It is a pathetic slap to the face of
My school district virtually mandated we spent the entire inauguration day celebrating King Obama, but can not show reverence for those president’s of the past. I dare to predict, after Obama’s four years of ruining our nation, African Americans will not let President’s Day go by without taking this day to celebrate.
I would not have said this was a racial issue until I conversed with an African American colleague who claimed Martin Luther King Jr. was indeed more important than our Presidents. This is who is educating our youth!
Over the past years I have gotten into trouble discussing racial issues, and I am sure this is no different. Many times in my life I have been called a racist because I simply state what I have seen in my life. Instead of discussing racial issues, “the other side” often feels offended and attacks one who differs from their opinion. This attitude is divisive and needs to stop. We must change this attitude of racial identity in favor a single, same, American identity. We are creating a generation of

Sam gets tough on Obama!
Snippets From McCormick's Rant

It has been a few weeks since I last wrote anything politically oriented. Since my last post our country was still on that familiar road of capitalism. Yes, our economy was not doing well, but our first priority was fighting the war on terror. But soon Barack Obama was crowned president of the United States.
...I endured an inauguration day celebration at the urban Houston high school where I teach. I mockingly wore my Reagan-Bush ’84 campaign shirt as a bastion of fair and balanced among the, literally, thousands of pro-Obama t-shirts the students and staff were wearing. I choked down the patriotic blue and red jell-o the cafeteria made. And I tried to stand up for the one white girl I have in class that simply said she did not like Obama. Later that day she as jumped for the same comment.
I have had countless conversations with liberals and conservatives alike. In one argument with a colleague I simply stated I did not support Barack Obama. Since this comment was spread like wildfire through the blind faculty at my high school I have been literally black listed. Not only do I get dirty looks as I walk through the hallway, but I am simply not allowed to believe anything other than what they believe.
I have to explain to my students why one teacher has replaced the American history posters that filled her wall, with framed idyllic pictures and news articles of Barack Obama; so much with not indoctrinating our students.
Since that sad day in January when our country took a step towards Socialism, I have called my brother and gave him the “I told you so speech,” as Obama finally showed his cards. He had stood by the ignorant belief that Obama is not as radical as I think. Well older brother, you were wrong.
Since Obama has taken over he has apologized to the Muslim world for America and has been tougher on Rush Limbaugh than Islamic radicals...He takes no responsibility for the economic plight, but fails to admit he voted in favor of virtually every piece of legislation that has led to our current “crisis;” the worst since the Great Depression if you did not hear.
He constantly ignores economists and scientists that disagree with plans and attacks Republicans for not showing nonpartisanship. He allowed Pelosi and Harry Reid to slip a ridiculous amount of pet projects into the “Stimulus” plan and stands in front of America proclaiming there is no pork barrel spending in this plan.
His arrogance and attitude at the idea that the American people will swallow this pill is nothing less than frustrating. He looked into my living room and lied to me, I wanted to throw up. He spit in my face explaining there is no pork in this plan. Please believe Mr. President, we are not that naive.
Please explain to me how $650 million for digital TV coupons, $350 million for Agriculture Department computers, $600 million to convert the federal auto fleet to hybrids, $87 million for a polar icebreaking ship, $7.6 billion for “rural community advancement programs,” $400 million for global-warming research, and $1.5 billion for green-technology loan guarantees are going to help “stimulate” our economy!
In his first prime time press conference (actually the second, his first was with the Islamic media outlet), he constantly proclaimed government as the only agent to help pull America out of this rut. He spoke of Japan’s lost decade with the ignorance of a child saying they did not act bold enough. Japan enacted eight different stimulus plans and tripled their national debt!
Since that fateful day in January, I have lost faith in our government. I wait for the day when they do attempt to silence the right. I see the lines forming in the sand. The “with us or against us” mentality is dangerous. The ludicrous activities of our government since the reign of Obama has been pathetic...I have even left out discussion of his corrupt cabinet.
Joe Biden is a gaffe machine. The media often ignores his ignorant, ill-informed, and habitually comical rants. But his recent comments about our international enemies testing Barack Obama takes the cake. However, I do not think it was a gaffe.
A gaffe would be when Joe Biden screws up what he was trying to say and says something offensive, or just plain dumb, but this is different. He truly believes what he is saying is true, and frankly, it is scary.
Biden said, “Mark my words. It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We're about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here if you don't remember anything else I said. Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.”
Well Mr. Biden, I have marked your words and they are stupid. Not only should McCain grab this and run with it, but the fact Biden mentioned it is incredibly stupid. It is as if the bases are loaded with two outs, and Biden just threw a hanging curveball to John McCain. Let’s pray he hits it out of the park.
We are in the greatest economic crisis of our generation, and Biden is guaranteeing an international crisis to complicate the situation. You think the Dow Jones is bad now, wait until this crisis happens. Six days after September 11, when trading started again, the Dow dropped 684.71 points. We can not take another hit like this.
Any nation that is willing to threaten America in an “international crisis” will be a nation that supplies us oil; namely, Venezuela, Iran, Saudi Arabia, or the Soviet Union. Do you think the gas prices would go up or down?
Let us recap; Biden guarantees a major international crisis testing Barack Obama after they win the White House, and they are still ahead in the polls. Americans, open your eyes and take a look around. Why would we take the risk of a world dictator testing Obama, when we have a crisis deterrent in the other party? John McCain will not only respond correctly to a crisis, but will deter any ideas of it with not only tough talk, but tough action.
Allow me to rephrase this in laymen’s terms; elect Obama and face an international crisis AND an economic crisis. We already have one dilemma on our hands, and I like to take my crises one at a time. Thanks Joe!
I was asked to write about my recent experiences with Hurricane Ike. I just moved to Houston, Texas to pursue my teaching career in this land of terrible schools and Mexican restaurants. Within four weeks of moving to this great state I was forced to deal with Hurricane Ike.
School was cancelled on Friday, and most near the Gulf Coast evacuated inland. But almost all of those I spoke with were staying in town. They would fight out Ike despite the chance they may lose power for up to three weeks. I sat on the phone with my Aunt who lives in Dallas. She invited me up to evacuate the storm. I was on the fence as whether to drive north or stay home and risk missing a full gambit of Saturday college football.
I chose football. Friday morning I woke up and headed north toward Dallas. Iowa was playing Iowa State, and I could not risk the power knocking the game out of my viewing path.
For three days I lay on their comfortable couch, watched football, ate junk food, and played ping-pong while Geraldo Rivera and others braved the terrible storm. The news was all bad. Everyone I spoke with had lost power, and explained it may be off for weeks.
Tuesday I headed back to my one room apartment and was nervous that my place may have flooded. My neighbor had flooding and was still without power on Monday night. I pulled in Tuesday expecting my carpet to be ruined, my power off, and the food in my freezer to be ruined. What I found was no flood, power on, and a freezer full of edible food.
Somehow I was blessed to miss the damage we saw on the news caused by Hurricane Ike. The next week was full of watching television and surfing the internet. Somehow, my apartment complex got power before all the surrounding areas. You could not go shopping because all the stores were closed, and you could not go to the bar because there was a 9 p.m. curfew.
The week’s boredom forced me to break my mother’s warnings and purchase a dog. Since then I spent my evenings cleaning dog urine off my floor; but that is here nor there. The fact is, I did not see the effects of Ike to the full potential. I sat in my apartment with a dog, food, beer, and air conditioning. I watched the pictures of Galveston, Texas with the same amazement you did. I saw the pictures of flooding and wondered how close I was to that. All I saw were down trees and powerless street lights. I truly avoided calamity, and I am blessed for this; but this does not mean I did not learn anything from this.
I try to learn from every situation God puts me through, and Hurricane Ike is no different. What I learned was America’s infrastructure is pathetic, and we are at a watershed moment in America’s history. Over two weeks later, there are still people without power. Most of my students went over a week with no power, no water, and no relief in this ninety degree heat. We must rebuild this infrastructure or we are leaving America very vulnerable to attack. Remember how strong our economy was growing when the terrorists hit on 9/11? Now we are weak, have a military spread too thinly and obviously, and our economy is on the verge of collapse. We can not take another attack on the scale of 9/11.
We have to cut foreign spending and invest in America. Our nation is at it’s greatest in a time of crisis. Remember how our workers fueled the Marshall Plan and rebuilt Europe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marshall_Plan). We need a leader who can lead us onto a path of recovery.
We must invest in alternative sources of energy, cut our foreign spending, and invest in American contractors to create jobs and rebuild our crumpling roads, sewage systems, and power grids. This will increase the strength of the dollar and circulate our own money into the hands of American workers. Inevitably, this allows American’s to keep more money. When we have more money, we will have a raise in government funds. This raise in government funds does the same thing as taxes; only it allows the economy to grow as opposed to stunting economic expansion.
I got off topic with a rant on my solutions to America, but the message is still the same. We are at a critical juncture in the history of the world, and we must make the right decision. We have to make the country strong and face the realities in our world before, as the great Reverend Jeremiah Wright once said, our “chickens have come to roost.” I am 23, and not very sure on anything. But there is one thing that I am for darn sure, Barack Obama is not the man for this job.

I returned to teaching after missing over two weeks due to Hurricane Ike. The question all my sophomore world history students had for me was, "Are we going into another Great Depression?” and “What is with the 700 billions dollars?” I paused, collecting my words to answer their questions.
I embarked in the righteous profession of teaching when my high school history teachers shoved their political opinions down our throats. I, being the constant rebel, was their worst nightmare arguing with them at every chance. I hated the way my teachers’ tried to influence the minds of impressionable teenagers with their political views, as opposed to presenting the facts and letting them decide. My goal as an educator is to explain historical events with no bias and let them make their own decisions. I guide them in their quest to acquire knowledge and form opinions based on those novel ideas.
The pause lasted forever as my students froze awaiting my answer to their query. This was hard to answer. I could not respond to them the way I wanted to. I had to produce an unbiased version of what happened, without letting my deep rooted biases be known. I spewed an off-the-cough lecture of nonbiased opinions to their questions. But that was my students; you get the version of what I truly wanted to say. If I were a college professor, here would be the answer to my questioning students:
“No, we are not going into another Great Depression. That is purely speculation of pessimistic, ill-informed, and irrational Americans whose over-reaction could fuel a Great Depression based purely on fast-twitch financial moves. That being said, we are in a financial crisis brought along thanks to the 'everybody deserves a chance no matter how little they have worked for it' crew.”
“These warriors for the low-class pushed legislation to allow social engineering with our economy. They forced mortgage lenders to give no-down housing loans to lower income Americans so they could get their piece of the American Dream. Because instead of working for the American Dream, they believed everyone is entitled to it. These entitlements for those who can not seem to grasp the American Dream demoralized our financial systems by stacking the cards in their deck.”
“Instead of doing it the way my parents and your parents did it, they had artificially boosted these Americans who had not earned the right to a loan. This idea of entitlement created an economy that was a house of cards. So fragile from entitlement, when a brisk wind blew past the housing market, all hell broke lose and the house of cards folded.”
“Crisis has always been the friend of the government, and this current bail out deal gives Washington even more power. In a Hugo Chavez-esk move, this bailout takes from our pockets and goes through the government; that black hole of public funds. Not only this, but it saves those who are drowning due to their own ignorance.”
“The crisis is not a failure of the economy, but a failed attempt at undercutting the very principles that make America's free-market great. If you were an irresponsible lender, buyer, or anywhere in between; you must suffer the consequences. I try to instill to my students that they choose their path in life, and they must accept the consequences; as one of my favorite philosophers of contemporary religious doctrine once said, "America’s chickens……… have come to roost!”

Think about it. Take a journey with me. Go back to your world history class. You sat in the middle because that way it is easier to sleep. Or maybe that’s not you; you were the one in the front that raises their hands to show us all you are smarter. Or maybe you’re like me, sitting in the back to write notes, mess around, and occasionally crack an immature joke.
Wherever you sat, go there with me. Think back to what you learned of the world’s worst dictators. You sat there and were mesmerized when you heard of the sins of the Nazi’s for the first time. You could not understand how one civilization could take nine to eleven million innocent lives; simply because of their “brand.”
You read “The Diary of Anne Frank” and filled out guided reading sheets, and if your teacher was talented you would discuss how terrifying it would be to be hunted by your country’s government. You actually paid attention when you heard about the “Final Solution.” If you are like me, you went home and asked your dad, “How could the Nazi’s want to exterminate an entire race?” You had to get your mom’s signature before you watched in awe, the unbelievable pictures of lifeless, skinny, defeated bodies piled up along the side of the road.
You sat disgusted when you read about the gas chambers in Treblinka, with enough room to kill twenty thousand Jews at one time. Twenty thousand people at one time. I played in a State Championship game in front of this many people. The seats were packed to the brim. Image you are with me. We played in the Detroit Lion’s Silverdome. The tall white dome over the field echoed the cheers back down to the field. The noise when we scored the first touchdown was deafening. Now imagine lethal gas being pumped into the Silverdome. Twenty thousand people killed. On purpose. At once. One man, without thinking twice, could flip a switch and murder twenty thousand innocent people.
Our world has not seen anything like this in its history before or after. There have been worse mass murderers, Josef Stalin for one, but there has never been such a concentrated attempt at ethnic cleansing. Hitler led an attempt at a “final solution” to eliminate the earth of Jews, gays, gypsies, and other groups they branded as demons. The Holocaust set the bar for institutionalized terror and murder. No one can question the validity and horror of the Holocaust. It is a fact. The Nazi’s annihilated 67% of the world Jewish population in a little over 5 years. If 67% of Americans were murdered, that would be over 200 million people!
The Holocaust happened. It is part of the world culture. It is fact, yet we allow Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to speak at the United Nations. Iran is not part of the world culture and we coddle him with kid gloves trying not the upset the crazy. He slaps us all in the face when he claims the Holocaust is a myth. Yet we allow this maniac into our institutions of freedom and knowledge to mock us. He is a ruthless dictator who has not only dispelled the Holocaust as a western myth of ignorance, but he has threatened Israel; explaining to a crowd of eager followers, “Israel must be wiped off the map.”
This man is a threat to Israel, a threat to the United States, and a threat to the world culture. He is off the reservation and there should be no acceptance to let him back on. His nation is undergoing the process of enriching uranium and directly threatening our interests and the interests throughout the world. He laughed at us once when Colombia University allowed him to speak on their liberal infested campus, and now the worthless U.N. is giving him the world’s stage to laugh at our inaction and taunt us with more pathetic rhetoric. The time is now. This man is not a friend to any nation. He denies historical fact, and speaks about religion with a prophetic tone. Ahmadinejad is a dictator that can not simply be controlled. He must be dealt with. We should learn from the history of our grandfathers. The policy of appeasement failed us a little over 50 years ago and it will fail us again. Ahmadinejad is taunting us because he knows America will not act alone. Thank God for Israel.
